15 Nude Nail Shades: Beige, Peach, Brown and Pink, Matched to Thai Skin

"Nude, please" is something we hear very often at the salon. But open the colour chart and nude is not one colour. There is beige, peach, brown, pink, dusty mauve and milky white, and each one looks completely different depending on the skin it sits on. This guide collects 15 nude shades from real sets done at our salon, sorted into 6 families, and tells you which one suits which Thai skin: fair, medium, tan and deep. There is also a section on nude cat eye, for anyone who wants something plain with a little shimmer.
Nude is a colour women who work choose often. It goes with every work outfit, looks right in a meeting, at a temple ceremony or on a weekend away, and as your nails grow out the gap at the cuticle is far less noticeable than with a dark shade. You only get all of that when the shade is right, though. A nude that is off either disappears into your fingers so it looks like you are wearing nothing, or makes your hands look duller than they are.
The good news is that every skin tone has its own nudes. Fair skin, tan skin and deep skin all have shades that look beautiful, and no skin tone is a problem. All you need is to find the nude family that leans the same way as your skin.
What is a nude colour, and how is it different from any light shade?
Nude means a colour close to human skin: a mid-tone family with beige, pink, peach or brown in it. On the nail it looks continuous with the finger instead of contrasting sharply. Pastels such as baby blue, mint or pale yellow are light too, but they are not nudes, because they are nowhere near a skin colour.
Nudes also come in three finishes. Opaque, where you see solid colour across the nail and it looks neat and office-ready. Sheer or syrup, where you can faintly see the nail through the colour, so it looks like a healthy nail with a glossy coat. And shimmer, such as pearl or cat eye, which adds depth when your hand moves. The 15 shades below cover all three.
Two rules for choosing a nude that suits your skin
- The nude should differ from your skin a little. One or two steps lighter or deeper, and your nails look alive. An exact match makes the nail vanish into the finger.
- The nude should lean the same way as your skin. Skin with a pink cast suits pink-leaning nudes. Skin with a yellow or golden cast suits peach and caramel nudes.
Not sure whether your skin leans pink or golden? There is a quick check using your wrist veins and silver versus gold jewellery in Nail colours that flatter fair, tan and deep skin. It takes under a minute; then come back and pick from the list below.
Beige, greige, taupe: fair skin with a yellow cast, and medium skin
Peach, apricot: fair skin with a yellow cast, medium skin, tan skin
Brown, mocha, caramel, chocolate: especially tan and deep skin
Pink nude, milk pink, sheer pink: fair skin with a pink cast; brownish pink suits tan skin
Mauve, dusty rose: almost every skin tone
Milky white: medium and tan skin, and the sharpest contrast on deep skin
The beige family: the most expensive-looking, calmest nudes
Beige is a nude with grey or brown in it. It is not sweet and not bright, and it gives the clean, polished look you see in Korean fashion. It suits anyone who often wears white, cream, black or grey.
1. Greige
A beige with a clear grey cast. On short, rounded nails it looks neat and understated. It suits fair skin with a yellow cast and medium skin, for anyone who wants a nude that does not turn pink. Lovely with a silver watch or ring.
2. Taupe on toenails
Taupe is a beige with brown and grey in it, a little deeper than greige. On toenails it looks clean, goes with every pair of sandals or open-toe shoes, and suits the skin on the feet, which is often a little darker than the hands.

There is just one thing to watch in this family. Very fair skin with a strong pink cast can look washed out with a very pale beige. If that is you, move to a beige with a little more pink, or skip ahead to the pink nude family below.
The peach family: peach nude nails that make hands look fresh
Peach is a nude with a soft orange in it. It is the nude that most easily gives Thai hands a healthy flush, because many Thai skin tones lean yellow or golden, so peach goes the same way as the skin.
3. Opaque peach nude
A soft peach with solid coverage on short, soft-square nails. Neat enough to wear to work every day. It suits fair skin with a yellow cast and medium skin.
4. Sheer apricot syrup
An apricot peach in a sheer finish, so the nail shows through faintly. It looks glossy, like a healthy nail with a fresh coat, and as your nails grow the gap at the cuticle barely shows. Great for tan skin that wants a sheer nude.

5. Peachy pink nude
A peach with a little more pink, glossy, on short rounded nails. Gentle and polite, and it suits every age. This is an in-between shade that works on almost any skin, so if you really cannot decide, start here.

The brown family: brown nude nails in mocha and caramel
Brown nudes are the ones that look best of all on tan and deep skin, because they are deep enough not to blend in and warm in the same way as the skin. Fair skin can wear them too; the look just turns richer and bolder than other nudes.
6. Mocha brown on toenails
A deep coffee-with-milk brown on toenails. It looks polished, goes with every pair of shoes, and keeps your feet looking neat even on days full of walking.
7. Caramel on toenails
An orange-leaning caramel brown, brighter than mocha. It suits tan skin especially well and makes feet look fresh on a beach trip or during a festival.

8. Chocolate with milky beige
Glossy chocolate brown alternating with milky beige on a few nails. A two-tone nude that feels playful but still plain, for anyone who wants nude but worries it is too simple. Very elegant on medium and tan skin.

The pink nude family: a little sweet, still polite
Pink nude is a nude with soft pink in it, so the nail looks like a real nail with a healthy flush. Sweet enough without looking childish, and it works on workdays and weekends alike.
9. Milk pink
A soft, slightly cloudy pink like strawberry milk, glossy, on short oval nails. Clean and gentle, and the best match for fair skin with a pink cast.
10. Sheer pink nude
A sheer pink that lets the nail show through, for a "your nails but better" look that does not seem made up. Great for anyone who works with food or children and wants the neatest possible hands.

11. Sheer brownish pink on tan skin
A pink with some brown in it, in a sheer finish, on short nails on tan skin. Notice in the photo how healthy the nails look, not washed out, because this pink has warmth that matches the skin. This is the first shade we would suggest for anyone looking for nude nails for tan skin.

The mauve family: a grown-up nude with a hint of purple
Mauve is a pink with purple and grey in it. It looks more grown-up and stylish than pink nude, and it suits almost every skin tone because it carries both the warmth of pink and the coolness of purple.
12. Mauve nude, almond shape
An opaque dusty purple-pink, very glossy, on almond nails. Polished in a Korean way, and paired with a gold ring your hands instantly look more expensive.
13. Dusty rose
A rose pink softened with a touch of grey, deeper than mauve. A polite, grown-up look on short rounded nails. Right for a temple ceremony, a wedding or the office.

The milky white family: the cleanest-looking nude
Milky white is a white that is not stark: soft and slightly cloudy like milk, and some shades have a fine pearl shimmer. It is the cleanest-looking nude of all, and on deep skin it makes a sharp, beautiful contrast.
14. Pearly milky white
Milky white with a soft pearl sheen on long almond nails. When your hand moves you see a gentle shimmer. Lovely for special days such as a wedding, a graduation or a pre-wedding shoot.
15. Milky white, almond shape
An opaque, glossy milky white on almond nails. Plain, clean and graceful. In the photo you can see the nails stand out clearly while still looking at home on the hand.

Nude nails for tan skin: which shade?
Tan and medium skin wear nudes beautifully, as long as the nude has warmth and enough pigment. From the 15 shades above, the ones that suit tan skin especially well are:
- Sheer apricot syrup (shade 4) glossy and natural, easy to wear every day
- Caramel and mocha (shades 6 and 7) warm in the same way as the skin, so hands and feet look fresh
- Chocolate with milky beige (shade 8) depth and brightness on one hand
- Sheer brownish pink (shade 11) a pink that does not make hands look dull
- Milky white (shade 15) a clear contrast that looks clean
What tan skin should choose carefully is a very pale beige that matches the skin exactly, and greyish pastel pink. You can still wear both, but a shade one step deeper or warmer will sit more naturally on your skin. For deep skin, go straight to the deep brown nudes and milky white: both make the nails stand out clearly and look very elegant.
Nude cat eye nails: plain but with depth
If a regular nude feels too plain, nude cat eye is the answer. Cat eye gel contains magnetic particles that the nail artist pulls into a line of light across the nail, and the light moves as your hand moves. On a nude base the shine looks soft, not flashy, so it is easy to wear to work.
The first photo is a champagne-gold nude cat eye on short nails, sweet and expensive-looking. The second is a brown nude cat eye on tan skin with small painted stars on a few nails. It shows nicely that tan skin with a shimmering nude looks full of depth, not dull at all.

Tips to make nude nails look expensive and last
- The cuticle work matters most. Nude is a plain colour, so untidy cuticles show clearly. At the salon we push back the cuticles and trim the excess skin before colour on every set.
- Choose the finish to fit your day. If you use your hands a lot, choose a sheer nude so the regrowth shows less. For a sharp, polished look, choose an opaque nude.
- A glossy top coat helps a lot. A glossy nude looks fresher and healthier than a matte one.
- Nail shape makes fingers look longer. A skin-close nude on oval or almond nails makes your fingers look like they continue to the tip. For short nails, see how to choose a shape in Gel nails on short nails.
- Wear gloves for washing up and cleaning. It keeps the colour glossy for longer and the skin around your nails from drying out.
- Hands and feet do not need to match. A light nude on the hands with mocha or caramel on the feet looks coordinated, and the feet look fresher.
