Grab Is Hard to Use in Nakhon Phanom. How Do Locals Get a Ride?

You open Grab, type where you want to go, and nothing comes up. Or something comes up, but it is a different place with a similar name. People visiting Nakhon Phanom or who have just moved here run into this a lot, and our own customers really do message us asking where to drop the pin if they come by Grab, or saying they cannot find us on Grab. So Nanny Nails tested booking a ride to the salon on both apps. This article explains why some places do not show up in Grab, how people here book rides, and the steps that actually work, from tapping the button to getting out at the door.

The problem is not that you cannot use the app, and it does not mean the place you are going to does not exist. Mostly it comes down to one thing: ride-hailing apps do not all use the same map. A place that shows up clearly by name in one app may not have a name yet in another.

Why Grab cannot find a place that Google Maps shows clearly

Many people assume every ride app takes its map from Google Maps, so if Google Maps has a shop, the other apps must have it too. That is not how it works.

In June 2022 Grab announced that it uses its own map, called GrabMaps, instead of the maps from other companies it had used before. A shop or place name that the owner added to Google Maps does not automatically appear in Grab. Small shops, shops inside housing estates and businesses run from home are often the ones that do not have a name on Grab's map yet.

We saw this ourselves when testing. Typing the salon's name into Grab brought up nothing that was right, but the same name typed into another app brought up the salon straight away.

The thing to remember: not finding a place in one app does not mean you cannot get there. You just need a different way of telling the app where you are going.

Most people in Nakhon Phanom book rides with LINE MAN

From what the salon owner sees every day, most people in Nakhon Phanom use LINE MAN to book rides. If you only have Grab on your phone, installing LINE MAN as well helps a lot, especially when you are going to a small place that is not on a main road.

We are not saying Grab does not work in Nakhon Phanom. It does, but the way you search for your destination has to change a little, and the steps are in the section after next. As for fares and how many cars are around at different times, these vary from day to day, so always check the price the app shows before you confirm.

Booking a ride to Nanny Nails with LINE MAN, step by step

We tested this ourselves on 13 October 2026. The salon's name comes up exactly, so you do not need to drop a pin yourself.

1. Open LINE MAN and tap Ride.
2. In the destination box type either ร้านทำเล็บนครพนม (nail salon Nakhon Phanom) or nanny nails.
3. Choose the entry ร้านทำเล็บนครพนม Nanny Nails ซ.7/1 หนองญาติ (Nanny Nails, Soi 7/1, Nong Yat).
4. Check that the pickup point matches where you are standing, check the price the app shows, then book.

If the entry that comes up includes both ซ.7/1 (Soi 7/1) and หนองญาติ (Nong Yat), it is the right place, and the driver can bring you to the mouth of the soi.

On Grab, search for this instead of the shop name, no need to drop a pin

Grab cannot find the salon's name yet, so we found a search term that works instead: a pin Grab already has, only about 30 metres from the salon.

1. Open Grab and book a ride as usual.
2. In the destination box type สุขภิรมย์ ซอย 7 (Suk Phirom Soi 7).
3. Choose the entry สุขภิรมย์ บ้านน้อยใต้ ซอย 7 (Suk Phirom, Ban Noi Tai, Soi 7). This pin is about 30 metres from the salon.
4. Once a driver accepts, send a message in the app chat: เข้าซอย 7/1 บ้านหลังแรกขวามือ (go into Soi 7/1, first house on the right).

This works better than dropping a pin on the map yourself, because a pin placed with your finger often slips into the next soi or the other side of the road without you noticing. A pin found by name is the same one the driver sees.

Watch out for a similar name in a different place

When you type สุขภิรมย์ (Suk Phirom), an entry called บ้านสุขภิรมย์ นครพนม (Baan Suk Phirom Nakhon Phanom) also comes up. Do not choose that one. It is about 1.2 kilometres from the salon, a different place. If you pick it by mistake, the driver will drop you quite far from us, and you will have to walk on or book another ride.

An easy way to remember: the right entry has บ้านน้อยใต้ ซอย 7 (Ban Noi Tai, Soi 7) in its name. If you do not see those words, do not confirm yet.

5 things that make drivers circle around, and how to prevent them

When a driver circles around looking for the place, it is usually not because the driver is bad at the job. It usually comes from small things when booking. Watch for these five before you confirm.

1. Choosing the first search result without reading the whole name the first result is not always the right one. Read the full line, check the soi and the estate name before you tap.
2. Dropping a pin yourself before zooming in enough at a whole-town view, a tiny slide of the finger moves the pin several sois. If you must drop a pin, zoom in until you can see the soi names first.
3. Not telling the driver about the side soi the pin takes the driver to the mouth of the main soi, but the house is in a side soi. Tell the driver briefly in the chat which soi, which house and which side.
4. Not turning your phone sound on after booking drivers often call to ask the way when they are close. If you do not answer, they may wait at the original point or drive around looking.
5. Booking a ride right at your appointment time when there are few cars around, it can take longer than you expect for a driver to accept. Leave some spare time so you are not rushed into picking the wrong destination.

If you come to us another way

Not everyone books a ride through an app. Many people get dropped off by family, or drive themselves. The information that works for every way of coming is just this:

• Where we are Ban Noi Tai, at Suk Phirom Soi 7/1, the first house on the right.
• Google Maps open our Nanny Nails map and send the link to whoever is dropping you off.
• Driving yourself there is wide parking in front of the house, and you can park inside too.
• Cannot find us call the salon on +66 99 002 8935 or message LINE @nannynails. We answer chats 24 hours a day.

If you reach the soi and are not sure which house it is, look for the glass door with the salon's name and the round light sign on the pillar beside it.

Booking a ride home from the salon works the same way

When your nails are done, set the pickup point the same way you set the destination on the way here. In LINE MAN you can type the salon's name as the pickup point. In Grab use the pin สุขภิรมย์ บ้านน้อยใต้ ซอย 7 (Suk Phirom, Ban Noi Tai, Soi 7) and tell the driver you are waiting at Soi 7/1, first house on the right.

A small tip: as you near the end, ask the technician how much longer it will take, then book the ride to arrive on time, so you do not stand waiting in front of the house for long. If you book before you are finished, tell the driver in the chat that you need a moment.

Booked an appointment? How much travel time to allow

We take 3 bookings a day between 09:00 and 18:00, and the time you book is set aside for you, so timing matters. If you know you need to move your appointment, tell us at least 1 hour ahead and you keep your 100 baht deposit for one rebooking. If you arrive more than 20 minutes late, we reserve the right to cancel the booking and keep the deposit.

We do not say this to worry you, only so you can plan comfortably:

• Book your ride before the time you think you need to leave home, to allow for waiting until a driver accepts.
• On your first visit, allow a little extra time to find the soi. Next time you will know the way.
• If traffic is bad or you really cannot get a ride, message us on LINE before your appointment time. It is easier to sort out than arriving late.

Visiting Nakhon Phanom? The same method works elsewhere

Different maps in different apps is not a problem only for our salon. Small shops, cafés down side streets and homestays often run into the same thing. Three rules work everywhere:

1. If one app cannot find the name, search in another app before you drop a pin yourself.
2. Still nothing? Search for the soi, the housing estate or a place close by instead and read the full name of each entry. Watch out for similar names.
3. Give the driver one more layer of directions in words which soi, which house, which side. Short is enough.
