12 Cat Eye Toenail Colours: Which Ones Make Your Feet Look Brighter in Sandals

Cat eye looks so good on your hands that you want it on your feet too. Then you do it, and the colour you loved on your fingers is not the same on your toes. In sandals your feet look dull, or the shade melts into your skin and you cannot see the light line. Toenails are different from fingernails in several ways: the angle people look from, the way the sun colours your skin, and the colour of the sandals that sit right next to your toes every day. This guide goes through 12 cat eye colours on toenails, with real photos from our salon, Nanny Nails in Nakhon Phanom, plus design ideas you can send us, and how to choose so your feet look brighter in sandals.

Cat eye toenails are something people ask us about a lot. The question is rarely whether we can do it, because we can, exactly as on fingernails. The real questions are which colour looks good in sandals, which colour makes feet look brighter, and why a shade that was lovely on your hands looks different once it is on your toes.

So here are 12 colours, with real photos, before you ever walk into the salon. If you want to know what cat eye is and how the magnet makes the light line, read what is cat eye gel. For colours on hands, go to 10 cat eye colours. This article is only about feet.

Before we start We do gel colour and nail art on toenails. We do not offer foot spa treatments or heel scrubbing, and we do not cut ingrown toenails. If a toenail is thick, yellow or might be a fungal infection, we will not paint over it, because the nail process adds moisture to the nail. Please see a doctor first. We are a nail salon, not a clinic, and everything here is about colour and looks. One more thing to say plainly: nail colour does not make your skin lighter. Your skin stays exactly the same shade. What changes is the picture your eyes see.

Why a cat eye colour looks different on toes than on hands

The same gel shade can come out differently on hands and feet. Four things cause it.

The cat eye light line also moves with the angle you look from. As you walk or shift your foot, the light travels across the nail, which plain single-colour toenails cannot do.

How can feet look brighter when skin colour does not change

Your eyes never judge a skin colour on its own. They compare it with whatever sits next to it, and nail colour on the tips of your toes changes whether the foot feels bright or dull. There is no fixed formula and different people see it differently, but there are two routes that people pick often.

Route 1: soft, light shades

Rose gold pink, pearl white, lavender, ice silver-blue, champagne nude. The nail itself looks light and clean, so it does not pull the skin around it darker by comparison. The light line is soft and sweet, good for days when you want tidy feet without standing out too much.

Route 2: deep jewel shades

Wine red, golden brown, navy, emerald, black with a gold line. A deep shade contrasts clearly with skin and the light line pops, so the eye goes to the nail first and the skin around it becomes a clean background. We once posted the golden brown design in our gallery with the words that it makes feet look fair and glowing, and you can see the real photo at number 10 below.

What to watch for is a muddy shade close to your skin tone, such as a greyish yellow-brown, on skin that already has a yellow cast. The toes can blend into one lump. If your skin is deep, that is not a problem at all: deep jewel shades and pearl white both contrast beautifully with deeper skin. Checking whether your undertone is warm or cool is covered in nail colours for your skin tone, so we will not repeat it here.

Match the cat eye colour to the sandals you wear most

If you wear the same pair of sandals almost every day, choose the nail colour to suit that pair first. It pays off the most.

SandalsCat eye colours that suitWhy
Tan or brown leatherTurquoise, navy, emeraldCool colours against warm brown make the nails stand out
BlackRose gold pink, pearl white, ice silver-blueLight shades against black make feet look especially bright
White or creamWine red, golden brown, black with goldDeep nails become the single focal point and feet look grounded
Gold, silver or metallicGolden brown, ice silver-blue, champagne nudeA metallic light line matches the metal studs on the strap
Bright colours, such as neon pink or yellowPearl white, champagne nude, lavenderThe sandals do the talking and the nails calm the eye

This table is a guide, not a rule. If there is one shade you love looking at most, on whichever sandals, that is the one to get.

12 cat eye toenail colours, real photos and design ideas

The photos in this section come in 3 kinds. The first is real toenail work from our salon, and tapping a photo shows more of that design in the gallery. The second is a design idea made with AI, labelled on the photo. It is not work we have done, but you can send that photo to us and we will do it. The third is a photo of fingernails in the same colour that we have done, used only when we do not have enough real toenail photos in that shade. Every item says which kind it is.

Soft, light shades: 5 colours

1. Rose gold pink

Milky pink with a warm gold shimmer in the light line. On feet it looks sweet without looking childish, and it suits fair pinkish skin and medium skin. With black or brown sandals, the toes look lighter in a row. This photo is a design idea you can send to us. If you also like pink on your hands, see 8 pink cat eye nail designs.

2. Champagne nude

A golden nude close to your skin tone but clearer, with a light line so thin it almost reads as a smooth sheen. Feet look natural and polished. It is good for work and does not clash with brightly coloured sandals. The photo below shows the same colour on fingernails that we have done (design A147), so you can see how it catches the light. On toes you get the same shade.

3. Pearl white

Milky white with a pearly shine and a soft white light line. It is the cleanest-looking shade of all. On deeper skin it contrasts sharply and looks very fresh, and on fair pinkish skin it looks soft with a faint glow. Worth knowing: every white shows the edge of the nail, so the nail tech needs to finish the edges neatly. This photo is a design idea you can send to us.

4. Lavender

Pale purple with a silver sheen in the light line. A cool shade that makes feet look clean and clear. It suits fair pinkish skin and goes well with white, cream or black sandals. If you like it but worry purple will be too much, start with just the big toes and do the other toes in nude. This photo is a design idea.

5. Ice silver-blue

A cool silver that shows a pale blue glint in the light. It looks modern and icy, and with black or metallic sandals it reads as understated luxury. It sits between grey and blue, so it works with many skin tones. This photo is a design idea you can send to us.

Cool, vivid shades: 3 colours

6. Turquoise blue

A bright blue-green with a white glint on the big toe, a slightly deeper shade on the smaller toes and silver glitter on the little toe. This is real toenail work from our salon (design A83). A cool colour like this contrasts clearly with skin that has a warm tone, and the toes look fresh, like you just stepped out of the sea. It looks lovely with brown or cream sandals, and by the Mekong in the evening it matches the water and the sky.

7. Emerald green

A deep jewel green with a bright light line. It is the boldest of the cool colours, so choose it if you want people to comment on your feet straight away. Wear it with brown or gold sandals. If you want to see emerald on fingernails, it is in the hand colours article linked above. This photo is a design idea you can send to us.

8. Navy with a purple shift

Real toenail work from our salon (design A61). The big toe is a blue that shifts to purple with the light, and the other toes are deep navy and black. A rich, luxurious shade for anyone who likes dark colours but not plain black. It contrasts strongly with skin, and looks especially good with silver or white sandals.

Deep jewel shades: 4 colours

9. Wine red

Real toenail work from our salon (design A159). The big toe is a wine-red cat eye with a deep light line, alternating with silver glitter on some toes. Red suits almost every skin tone, and the depth of wine helps feet look clean and smooth. In white, cream or light tan sandals the nails become the single focal point of the foot.

10. Golden brown

Real toenail work from our salon (design A160). The big toe is a golden-brown cat eye with a bronze light line, the other toes are dark brown, and some have gold and silver glitter. It is the design we posted in our gallery with the words that it makes feet look fair and glowing. In the photo the skin and the background are light, so the golden brown contrasts clearly and the foot looks bright as described. It is a polite colour that is fine for the office without being too eye-catching.

11. Copper orange-brick

Burnt orange with a red undertone and a copper light line. A warm shade that looks lovely in afternoon sun and looks alive against medium skin. The photo below shows the same colour on fingernails that we have done (design A201), and on toes you get the same tone. Wear it with brown or cream sandals.

12. Black with a gold line

Deep black with a gold light line running down the middle. It goes with every pair of shoes and it contrasts with skin more clearly than any other colour. The photo below shows the same colour on fingernails that we have done (design A280). On toes the gold line shows even better because the big toenail is so wide.

For more cat eye toenails, open the design gallery, choose the toes category and search for cat eye.

Cat eye on all ten toes, or just the big toes

There are 2 ways to do cat eye on toenails. Both look good, but they feel different.

The cat eye line shows best on a nail with room, which makes it ideal for the big toe. On a very small little toenail it only leaves a tiny sparkle. If you do not want the little toes to disappear, do them in a plain colour of the same shade. For mixed designs we total the price for you before we start, just tell us when you send the photo.

Something else worth knowing is that toenails grow about half as fast as fingernails. Fingernails grow about 3 millimetres a month and toenails about 1.5 millimetres a month, so the gap at the base of the nail shows up later than on your hands. The colour you pick can look good for longer.

Choosing a colour before you book: 4 steps you can do at home

  1. Take a photo of your feet in natural light. Wear the sandals you wear most, and shoot from above the way other people see them. Daylight from a window or outdoors in the shade is better than yellow indoor light.
  2. Decide whether you want soft and light or deep and rich. Use the 2 routes above as your starting point, then pick 2 colours from the 12.
  3. Save photos of the colours you like from this article or from the gallery, and note the design number if there is one.
  4. Send them on LINE before your appointment. We look at the photo of your feet and sandals and help choose a shade that goes with them, prepare the colour ahead of time, and total the price before we start.

Pretty feet from the first step into your sandals

Cat eye toenails do not need a complicated design to stand out. One colour and one line of light is enough. Choose between soft and light or deep and rich, look at the colour of the sandals you wear most, and let the big toe be the focal point. Toenails grow slowly, so the colour you choose this time stays with you for a good while. Everything we do is covered by our 7-day care period, so you can relax from the day you walk out.

Pick your favourite of the 12 colours above, then send us the colour name or save the photo and send it on LINE @nannynails. If you cannot decide, send a photo of your feet in the sandals you wear most and we will help you choose. We take 3 appointments a day between 09:00 and 18:00, so tell us which day suits you and we will hold a slot.

FAQ

How much do cat eye toenails cost?

Cat eye on all ten toes is 400 baht. Some toes only is 40 baht per nail plus 50 baht shaping. French tips over cat eye are 100 baht extra. Prices include shaping, base coat and top coat. Rhinestones or painted art are extra by quantity. We total the whole job before we start.

Which cat eye colours make feet look brighter?

Nail colour does not make skin lighter, but it changes the picture. Two routes are popular: soft light shades such as rose gold pink, pearl white and lavender, and deep jewel shades such as wine red, golden brown and navy that contrast clearly with skin. There is no fixed formula, so pick the shade you like looking at most.

Can I get cat eye on just my big toes?

Yes. Cat eye on the big toes only, with plain colour or glitter on the other toes, works well. Send us the design and we total the price before we start.

How long do cat eye toenails last?

Toenails grow about half as fast as fingernails: fingernails about 3 millimetres a month and toenails about 1.5 millimetres a month, so the gap at the base shows up later. How long a set lasts depends on your shoes and how you use your feet, and we do not quote a fixed number of days.

Can you do cat eye on thick or yellow toenails?

We do not paint over nails that are thick, yellow or might have a fungal infection, because the nail process adds moisture to the nail and an infection could spread. Please see a doctor first, then come back. We do not offer foot spa or heel scrubbing, and we do not cut ingrown toenails.

What is the salon's 7-day care period?

If work done at our salon lifts or peels within 7 days, bring it back and we will fix it for free. Message us on LINE @nannynails to arrange a time first.

Where is the salon and how do I book?

We are in Ban Noi Tai, Soi 7/1, Mueang Nakhon Phanom. Open every day, with nail appointments between 09:00 and 18:00, 3 per day. Book on LINE @nannynails or call 099-0028935. A 100 baht deposit is required per booking.
